I have a Mac / Linux background. I took a job where I supported primarily Windows machines. I remember wanting to set a machine to NTP to solve an out-of-sync time issue. I knew what the goddamned computer protocol was, but futzed around trying to find where I could enable it for ten minutes. Windows is confusing as fuck. Some years back, I briefly dated someone who liked being on one of the chat-roulette type of apps. She got on via her laptop and my wifi and started chatting with a teen girl. I told her this was problematic for me, an adult male, happening on my internet. I told her she couldn’t use the service anymore at my place.

She couldn’t understand why I was paranoid about it. Separately, she also thought I was ranting about a conspiracy theory when I told her about the Snowden leaks, so I guess that’s no surprise. We lasted only a week.

I think that in this scenario, Netflix could hold copyright over the idea and characters. Only the script would be out of reach. Lawyers would ensure that they hold onto the right bits to prevent this scenario.

If I asked AI to write a story for a child, the whole thing is up for grabs. If I give it characters with specific traits and a story arc, that would still be mine. Only what the AI filled in wouldn’t be protected.

I owned a case for my iPhone 1.0 and used it for about two days. I kept taking it off to show people the actual phone and then realized, “Why do I have this stupid thing on the phone?”

I have never used a case since then. My phones have been fine because I take care of them. I’ve had a few dings over the years, but I’ve never shattered the display or killed one. I like that my phone is sleek and nice.

This is not a vote against user-serviceable batteries. I can’t predict whether this will make my phone shittier until I see how it plays out.
